Research at the University of Cergy-Pontoise

With more than 500 PhD-hold researchers and 430 Phd students working in 22 research centers, two Centers of Excellence (Labex) and 6 open labs, the University of Cergy-Pontoise is among the most active research centers in France with a high international standard. The University entered into the Shanghai Ranking in 2012 with its mathematics activities as well as into the Taiwan ranking.

The university of Cergy-Pontoise is part of the Paris Seine University , which has been awarded by the I-SITE (Initiative Science-Innovation-Territory-Economy) in the framework of the PIA program (French government’s “Investments for the Future” program). This program aims at identifying a dozen French academic institutions for their capacity to become world-class universities, recognized for the quality of their research focusing on fields of excellence, and also for the quality of their education and their integration in the socio-economic fabric.

The awarding of the Paris Seine Initiative project is a unique opportunity to promote our identity and our vision in the changing national and international landscape of Higher Education and Research.

Activities of this pole aim at incorporating artificial intelligence into embedded systems, studying customized / reconfigurable architectures or integrated circuits, indexation of integrated information, big data management and analytics, designing and improving electronic devices and energy storage in embedded intelligence components.

Heritage, Creation and transfer of knowledge, Education

Activities of this pole focus mainly on the construction of different societies, their governing rules and administrative systems, their cultural identities and their ways of representation and thinking, the organization of their knowledge transmission, formation and communication. Research is also very active on the studies of tangible heritage thanks to the Center of Excellence Patrima. This pole brings together activities of research centers working on the evolution of writing forms, speeches, aesthetic concepts, ideological schemes, as well as the evolution of artistic productions and history of philosophy.

Social Norms, Politics, Territory Dynamics

This pole gathers together activities of laboratories working on public and private laws, history and philosophy of law, political practices, economic law, education policy, urban policy and many areas of political science. This interdisciplinary pole allows, on the one hand, interaction between law and political science, and on the other hand, the creation of new concepts and practices at the frontiers of different but related disciplines. The study of social thinking, social-rights laws and law concepts in various international contexts and in different socio-economic situations, is very useful for societies. The creation of the new Institute of Political Studies at the University of Cergy-Pontoise in partnership with the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines reinforces the research carried out in this pole.
