THEMA Theoretical Economics, Modelling, and Applications

ThEMA (Théorie Economique, Modélisation et Applications) is a research center in economics and management science, located at the University of Cergy-Pontoise. It is an UMR (Unité Mixte de Recherche), a joint partnership with CNRS since 1996. It hence gathers together University professors and CNRS Researchers. It also hosts Professors of the Department of Economics of ESSEC Business School. Since February 2012, ThEMA is part of Labex MME-DII (Modèles Mathématiques et Economiques de la Dynamique, de l’Incertitude et des Interactions), one of the winners of the second call for projects of the Investissements d’Avenir’ program.

The research activity essentially concerns theoretical microeconomics (game theory, decision theory, social choice, general equilibrium), applied microeconomics (development economics, family economics, inequality economics, transport economics, taxation economics, education economics, and competition policy), macroeconomics, labour and international trade, finance (corporate finance and financial markets), and marketing. The research fields within ThEMA are largely oriented towards economic policy issues.
