Civil Engineering double degree: welcome ceremony 2017 in ZUST

18.09.2017 - 25.09.2017

A delegation from the UCP (B. Fiorio, J. L. Gallias, A. Kaci, V. Nachef) visited Zhejiang University of Science and Technology (ZUST; in Hangzhou, China) for the week of 18th to 25th September 2017, in order to participate in the steering committee and the 5th student year welcome ceremony for the double degree/bachelor in Civil Engineering. The ceremony took place on 24th September in the presence of M. YE Gaoxiang, president of ZUST, and M. Fabien CHAREIX, attaché of university cooperation for the French General Consulate in Shanghai.

The Franco-Chinese Civil Engineering double degree/bachelor course lasts four years. Students spend the first three years in Hangzhou and are taught by both French and Chinese professors. For the last year of the cursus, 20 students are sent to Cergy-Pontoise, and the rest of the group remain in Hangzhou. This year (2017-2018), 350 students in total are following the programme (90 first year students, 82 second years, 100 third years and 78 fourth years, including 17 students who are currently studying at the UCP).

Fourteen students who graduated from the first year group are pursuing their Civil Engineering studies at Master level at the UCP.

The French Civil Engineering professors are largely present in ZUST thanks to regular visits (lasting a month) which are organized throughout the year. This physical presence meets amply with Chinese education law requirements by which at least one third of the volume of the programme must be conveyed by foreign professors.

The steering committee meeting is an opportunity to take stock of the double degree diploma. 62 of the first group year students graduated this year. Apart from the 14 students enrolled in the Civil Engineering Master programme, 10 students are currently studying for a Civil Engineering Master degree in China and almost all of the other graduates have found their first job. President YE Gaoxiang and Vice-Président CHEN Jun again stressed the high success of this course.

ZUST’s president re-affirmed his determination to reinforce cooperation between the two universities by instigation new collaboration projects. He gave a general reminder of the Civil Engineering Master Degree project and the Civil Engineering research agreement and proposed the implementation of a Science Data and Big Data double degree in cooperation with the Faculty of Science.
